Did you know that up to 60% of the adult human body is made up of water? Considering that’s more than half, I think it’s safe to say that it’s important we drink a lot of water throughout the day. There are several reasons why drinking water is so beneficial.
To name a few, water helps our brains and hearts function properly. Both organs combined are made up of nearly 73% of water. Dehydration can also cause our physical performance to suffer. By drinking water, you can help from becoming fatigued and keep your body temperature stabilized.
While we may need to drink water, it’s not always easy. Here are some simple ways you can increase your water intake to make sure you’re staying hydrated.
- Flavor Your Water: Adding things like mint, lemon, and fruit are great ways to flavor your water naturally.
- Use a Reusable Straw: I’m not sure why, but I find it easier to drink more water when I’m using a straw. You can find some great reusable ones here.
- Find a Fun Cup or Bottle: Drinking water is so much more fun when you find a favorite cup or bottle to use. Depending on if I’m at work or home, I alternate between using an insulated water bottle or a fun cup!
- Start and End the Day with Water: I find that by doing small tasks in the morning, such as making my bed and drinking a glass of water, it’s easier to stay on track with my goals throughout the day. Drinking a glass of water when you wake up and before you go to bed is an easy way to get in a couple extra cups for the day.
As you can see, water is important. If you’ve been struggling to drink more water (I know I have in quarantine), give these tips a try. And if you have other ways of making sure you drink water, please share them in the comments below!
